Alan Kalinda- Black Theatre Summary

Black Theatre originated in the 1800's and was created by or about African Americans. It mainly flourished during the Harlem Renaissance era. The ideals of African American theatre is to praise the root history, culture, and traditions of African American history. A lot of these themes are actually derived from African culture itself. However, overtime, the issues that African Americans face has began to predominate a lot of what African American theatre is revolved around. In "Fires in the Mirror", the African American society has issues with the Jewish community which ends up becoming violent via riots, killings, and etc. In reference to Black Theatre in comparison to the plot of "Fires in the Mirror", common characteristics of the two are not as prevalent in my perspective. I believe simply involving the African American conflict with the Jewish community isn't enough to classify it as Black Theatre as it dos not revolve too much around the actual culture of the community.
